What we learned from Dr. Oz…

Wow, these folks made a difference in the lives of 1,841,697 at-risk teens…

You’ve heard of the Peace Corps, right? We’ll these guys are like that…but for health.

I’m talking about HealthCorps, the non-profit organization founded in 2003 by Dr. Mehmet Oz that’s rocking the world of the millennial generation, giving them the skills they need to lead a wellness lifestyle.

Now that’s a mission we at BrainTap can get behind!

Healthcorps’ mentors go out to schools to teach teens what we wish every man, woman, and child already knew, such as how to eat and exercise properly so they won’t develop cardiac disease and diabetes; how to save someone else’s life by donating their organs; how to have conversations around addiction; how to have a healthy, resilient mind; and how to take pride in their reflections – not only in the mirror, but also on Instagram and Snapchat.

Healthcorps Support

We are thrilled to support Healthcorps and its team of dedicated mentors, for the second year in a row! As sponsors of Healthcorps’ annual fundraiser gala in New York City, where our founders, Drs. Patrick and Cynthia Porter, along with major influencers, such as Dr. Oz, Rocco Dispirito, Sudhir Choudhrie, and 650 other generous donors gathered.

To date, Healthcorps has impacted the lives of 1.8 million at-risk teens, but Dr. Oz’s founding vision—to impact 20% of all high school students nationwide and reduce the footprint of obesity on the next generation— still needs to be met.

What’s really cool about Healthcorps is that their reach doesn’t end with the kids. At the gala, Dr. Oz revealed the results of a March 2017 Healthcorps survey showing that 60% of teens help care for either a younger sibling, a parent, or an older relative, and 21% were the main caretaker—which means these kids are influencers, and what they learn goes home with them!
