At its core, BrainTap is a practical way to assess and improve Heart Rate Variability (HRV), telling us how balanced or unbalanced your nervous system is. A Pre–Test assesses your HRV to determine your body’s current state. BrainTap sessions then help you overcome the ill effects of the fight-or-flight response while achieving physical, mental and emotional balance. This is a critical piece of the stress, aging, and mindfulness puzzle. With the Post-Tests, we are able to monitor your progress and see improvements in the functioning of your nervous system.
The Science Behind The Test
During the testing, the HRV measures how well the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) is working within the body. Your ANS includes the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems (SNS & PNS) which work together in times of stress and anxiety. The ANS controls heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, digestion, organ function, and many other aspects of the body’s physiology.
The Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) goes into action when there is a threat to respond to, called the “flight or fight” response. After the threat has passed, the SNS slows as the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS) takes over and returns the body to being balanced and relaxed. If this process is not happening, the body stays in a stressed state, which contributes to anxiety attacks, sleep deprivation, headaches, weight gain, digestive issues, heart issues, suicidal thoughts, brain fog and more.
