How BrainTap does what it does…in layperson’s terms

The BrainTap headset de-stresses the brain and body and creates peak brain performance on a daily basis. It produces deep, meditative brain states that would normally take a decade or more of disciplined practice to achieve. And, it all happens without users having to do anything but sit back, slip on the headset, close their eyes, and relax.

But here’s the question we get every single day: How the heck does it do that? (In simple terms, please!)

So, here’s the simple answer!

BrainTap Audio-Sessions

Each BrainTap audio-session guides you through a full-spectrum of brainwave training produced by light, sound and vibration. The technology in the audios and the headset is based on a science known as frequency following response, which refers to the brain’s natural tendency to follow rhythms and frequencies. When the headset produces a specific frequency that matches a brainwave frequency, the brain will naturally follow it and subsequently produce that brainwave.

Not simple enough? Okay, try this…

Let’s say the headset’s lights and tones are producing a frequency in the range of 7.5–12.5 Hz, which matches the brainwave frequency of alpha. The brain will naturally pick up that frequency and follow it. Alpha is associated with light meditation and creativity.

Have you ever wondered why we find the seashore so relaxing? It’s because the rhythm of waves coming to shore resonates at the same frequency as alpha, which is why we tend to feel calm and relaxed while at the beach. Our brains follow the frequency, and we relax. While in alpha, the brain has no concept of time, which explains why we experience island time, or a sense that time slows down when visiting the beach, and it’s probably why islanders are known to be so laid back. And you thought it was the margaritas!

Now let’s head to New York and stand in the middle of Times Square. Horns are honking, lights are flashing everywhere, crowds of people…a cowboy in tightie whities. Are you with us?

In this chaotic environment, your brain is subjected to a frequency matching that of beta (12.5-40 Hz), the brainwave associated with focus and attention. Too much beta though, such as one would experience in Times Square, and we’re looking at high adrenaline, anxiety, the inability to relax, and undue stress. Which might explain why New Yorkers have a reputation for being so, so…well, you get the picture.

The BrainTap Headset

The BrainTap headset uses pulsed tones and gentle pulses of light to simulate both the lower frequency of alpha, which we’ve discussed, and the very deep meditative state of theta (3 to 7.5 Hz). Most people’s brains produce very little of these two brainwaves due to the intensity of the environment we all live in and lifestyle choices that allow for no downtime. By reintroducing these important brainwaves, we’re able to guide the brain back into a harmonized balance of brainwave activity, or what we call full-spectrum brainwave activity, which is the state of optimal brain performance.

Auriculotherapy

The headset also takes advantage of a science called auriculotherapy. Trigger points in the ears, called meridians, are known to directly balance the body’s organs and systems. These are typically activated using acupuncture needles. Fortunately, for those of us who get squeamish around needles, light frequencies can produce the same effect. The BrainTap earphones are uniquely equipped with 9 LED lights set at the optimum frequency for creating a feeling of serenity and balance.

The beauty of the BrainTap audios and headset is that the experience is quick—usually about 20 minutes—and completely passive. In fact, many times you can feel as if you’ve fallen asleep, but that’s perfectly normal, especially during deep theta training.

So, to sum it up, balancing, recharging, and optimizing your brain just doesn’t get any simpler than BrainTap!
