My name is Patrick K. Porter, Ph.D.
I’m here to help you finally live your life mindfully…and anxiety free!
Tell me something...
- Do you constantly focus on things outside your control?
- Are you frequently uneasy?
- Do you find anxious thoughts taking over your mind?
- Do you overeat, smoke, or drink when you feel stressed?
- Do you suffer from poor health?
- Do you lack of energy?
- Do you find yourself dwelling over small mistakes you’ve made?
- Do you have trouble falling asleep and staying asleep?
- Do you suffer from frequent headaches and/or muscle tension?
- Are you ready to change your life?
If you answered “YES!” to any of those questions, then you will be amazed at how easy and natural it is to retrain your brain to become worry free, every single day!
Because many of my clients live overloaded lives, continually worrying about work, children, relationships, and finances, unaware that there is something they can do about it, NOW!
What I’m about to share with you will drastically change your life. Why would I say that?
Because, I’m going to show you what you have been doing that is forcing your body to stay in stress-mode and how you can change.
You see, the real problem with anxiety is not what you’re experiencing in reality–it’s all in the way you THINK about things. I’ve uncovered the…
Real reasons why… You’re unable to change those unhealthy reactions to anxiety
It may be hard to believe, but you’ve unconsciously trained your brain to stay in a nervous state – constantly in stress mode. When in stress mode, you may not feel it, others may not see it, but your body knows it!
Worry is caused by many EXTERNAL factors including:
- Stress at work.
- Stress from school.
- Stress in a personal relationship.
- Financial stress.
- Stress from an emotional trauma such as the death of a loved one.
- Stress from a serious medical illness.
- Side effect of medications.
- Use of an illicit drug.
- Symptom of a medical illnes
It’s also important to remember we are experiencing low levels of stress almost constantly through our environment. Chemicals we expose our skin to, EMFs from electronic devices, and the constant stream of information; these lead to low levels of chronic stress that can affect the way we think and live.
The good news – there is an easier, healthier, and 100% natural solution.
How to gently restore your body’s natural ability to remain relaxed and stress free…
You can easily and gently restore your body’s natural ability to maintain a relaxed state by knowing what is causing your body stress in the first place.
You need to address the problem at its root–your mind.
You’ve probably been told that stress is caused by things, events happening in your life. Truthfully, stress is how you react to events—Not the actual events themselves.
Once you understand the why, the how is easy!
The Secret to Living Stress-Free, Lies Hidden In Your Subconscious Mind
Belief in your ABILITY to handle certain situations, controls how much you worry. Research has shown, if you BELIEVE you can handle a situation then you don’t feel worry about that particular event – you are in control. Training your brain to remain in control of your emotions, in ANY situation, will drastically reduce the amount of worry you feel–leading to a happier, healthier life for you and your family.
Millions of people all over the world are dealing with worry by overeating, drinking, smoking, and more…all habit forming and harmful to your body! I don’t need to tell you that these are not good solutions, nor are they helping you cope with the situation. They are only helping you avoid situations.
The sad fact is, if you go to a medical doctor for any stress or anxiety related issue, the first thing they will recommend is prescription medications. Medications can be habit forming, decrease quality of health, and simply mask the symptoms… They can never give your body the healing and healthy solution you need.
Let Go of the Past and Future, and Live in the Present
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” ~Einstein
I know what you’re thinking, how do we find balance?
When we are in crisis mode, our bodies tell us to fight or fly. Consider the stress of a demanding job, money problems, fights with loved ones, confusion about life in general. In any stressful situation, there are hundreds of possible solutions, but there is only one that allows us to move forward worry free: live in the present.
We get caught up in our pasts because we did not allow ourselves to live those pasts when they were present. You have to live in the moment so that it can pass.
Are you fully engaged in your day to day life? Or, do you spend your days at work worrying about everything you’re missing at home? When you’re home, are you distracted by the thoughts of the work you didn’t get done that day?
Being distracted not only takes away from the enjoyment of the moment, but leads to multitasking, which has been shown to increase stress and decrease productivity.
THE POWER OF NOW
In The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle wrote, “Unease, anxiety, tension, stress, worry–all forms of fear–are caused by too much future and not enough presence. Guilt, regret, resentment, grievances, sadness, bitterness and all forms of non-forgiveness are caused by too much past and not enough presence.”
The brain naturally will default to negative activity and worry through our imaginations–either through past experiences or perceived future events. When you let your thinking focus on the past or future it leads to stress and anxiety.
When we repeat the same type of thinking, we get into a habit of always seeking out the negative because of our fear. We get stuck and then we become overwhelmed. Unfortunately, this affects our physical body, as well as our mind. We might want to blame our workload, partner, other people, politics, etc., for our worries, but the problem is in our own mind and our failure to live in the present.
The brain doesn’t know the difference between past, present, or future thoughts, it takes everything as if it’s happening in the present. So, the stress that may be associated with those thoughts is happening to the brain now, as well.
If you want to experience life in a calmer, more peaceful way, you have to change the habit of reliving past experiences or worrying about things that haven’t happened yet. The way towards peace and calm is to live in the present moment, focused on the now. This in turn helps you to have a different experience and reduces worry significantly.
Now that you know what causes your anxiety – let’s talk about solutions.
Why Mindfulness is Your Key to Stress Reduction
Being conscious, in each moment, is the key to stress free living. When you find yourself thinking about the past or the future, STOP. Take a few deep breaths in, and re-center yourself to where you are in that moment in time.
Look at your surroundings and remind yourself to live in the present. If you find yourself thinking of work when you are with your kids, stop yourself and bring yourself back into the moment. When you are at work thinking about what you need to pick up for dinner, write it down and then bring yourself quickly back to the task at hand. Commit yourself to the event at hand and appreciate the moment for what it is.
In what situations, do you find it hard to focus and be in the moment? How do you bring yourself back to your current surroundings?
Dr. Martin Rossman, author of The Worry Solution, says the cure for most people is a radical change in lifestyle — and that it must begin in the mind. Learning to relax and refocus is key to living worry free.
When you are stressed and anxious, you’re most likely dwelling on a past event or a future one. You’re worried about what comes next or regretful about something you’ve already done. This can cause stress that our body needs recovery time from.
One way to decrease this type of stress is to bring yourself back to living in the moment. Be mindful of what’s going on in this moment in time. If you’re walking, feel the sensation of your legs moving your body. If you’re eating, focus on the taste, the smell, the sensation of the food you’re consuming. If you’re relaxing, be mindful of the heaviness of your limbs and the deep, rhythmic sound of your breathing.
Mindfulness reduces stress and helps us build inner strength, so that, in the future, stressful events have less impact on our happiness and wellbeing. Being mindful helps us become more aware of our thoughts in the present so we can take a step back and think before we react. You can learn to take a moment, pause, and then use your mind to come up with a better solution.
Mindfulness also allows us to just “be,” which is a state associated with relaxation. When we are constantly on the go, we are constantly exposing ourselves to stress. Being in the moment allows us to relax, heal, and tune in to the needs of our bodies.
Mindfulness allows us to be more sensitive to others. As you allow yourself to live in the moment, not being influenced by past or future events, conflicts with others will lessen. You will find that you can deal with situations that arise in a positive and productive way because you are reacting to what is–not what may have been or might be.
Being in the moment that is now allows you to change your attitude about stress.
Rather than seeing only the negatives, mindfulness offers you a space to think differently about stress, and respond in a more appropriate manner without past regrets or future worries influencing you.
Now, I know what you must be thinking…
Who has the time to stop, relax and retrain their brain to focus on the moment?
